Playa Nueva<\/b> fine sandy beach is the largest in the bay, stretching 450m; it has many services to offer. Very nearby, you will also discover Canyelles Peque\u00f1as Beach<\/b> a beautiful cove protected from the tramontana (northern wind). Although it is a little further away, it has services including a bar, restaurants and scooter hire. For those visiting with dogs, you will find Rubina beach in Empuriabrava which is pet friendly.<\/p>\n

If you like to discover the surroundings by walking, the \u2018camino de ronda\u2019 trail follows the coastline, offering different coves such as Cala Montjoi or Cala J\u00f2ncols<\/b>. Without leaving Roses, Trinidad Castle<\/b> offers a privileged view of the town and they bay. It is a military fortification which dates back to 1544.<\/p>\n

The region of Alt Empord\u00e0 is lucky enough to retain a priceless archaeological legacy, the Emp\u00faries Greco-Roman archaeological site<\/b>. Emp\u00faries is the only archaeological site in the Iberian Peninsula where the remains of a Greek city, Emporion, exist alongside those of a Roman city, Emporiae. The proximity of the region to the border caused it to become a place of transit during the exile from the Spanish Civil War, something reflected in the Exile Museum in Jonquera<\/b>. Figueres preserves several air-raid shelters, one of them can be visited, and a series of defensive elements situated by the sea (some in Roses) and other border crossing points of the Sierra de la Albera mountain range.<\/p>\n
